Where is Gembloux?

There are two events in Gembloux which you may wish to visit:

But Gembloux is a delight at any time. From Zeebrugge it is a two or three hour journey or a 12 hour cycle ride... You'll pass through Bruges, Ghent, wonderful flemish towns and villages and crossing into French speaking territory, Waterloo and into Namur province.
Namur is itself picturesque town on the river which flows from Dinant and the Ardennes. This is an unexploited area and a delight to walk, cycle or ... simply cruise!
Here is Sarah Dudfield's Guide to Gembloux and Belgium.

Symbiophonies

The 'Symbiophonies' is a festival of music. The university opens the campus to music - from 'rock and roll' to chamber music. Most events take place in the vast gardens filled with interesting plants anmd specimen trees. There are groups of musicians and choirs from most of the twin towns, Epinal, Skyros and others. In the evening the campus is lit by thousands of candles. The music goes on and on. There's lots of lovely food and drink and the obligatory firework display at the end of the night.

In 1999 we went over for the first weekend on July.

Braderie

Lynne Hawkes now tells us about the Braderie: "A delightful weekend. All the shops have the equivalent of an Autumn Sale and place stalls on the pavements outside. They stay open very late. In every part of the town there are groups of musicians, dancers and beer tents. The Gembloux twinning committee has a 'seafood cafe' with really nice meals at very reasonable prices.

Most people in the town come out to see and be seen. In the evening there are concerts in various parts of the town with fire works and laser displays. It's really worth attending and gives you an excellent feeling for the town!", says Lynne.
